Renowned educationalist helps inspire primary writing conference

Published: 27 November 2012

Pie Corbett, educationalist and author, well-known for his books on teaching creative writing, delivered a day conference for Southampton Education School this month.

Arranged by academics Caroline Walker and Jo Wright in conjunction with Freemantle CE Academy, a local partnership school, this is our second joint venture and was a resounding success with over 350 attendees.

The event was offered to current trainee primary teachers from BA QTS, GTP, PGCE and a local SCITT provider(PCP). In addition we invited NQTs from these courses as well as teachers, mentors and Head teachers from schools across a range of local authorities.

Pie writes widely in the educational press, provides training nationally and works as a poet and storyteller in schools. During the conference on how to develop writing, Pie used many innovative interactive techniques, including movement to storytelling.

One delegate commented, “What a fantastic, inspirational and informative day. It was such an enjoyable experience and I am quite certain that it will impact greatly on my own future practice!”
