Event details
This one day event in Southampton includes input from the three main awarding organisations AQA, Edexcel, and OCR focusing on help with the new specification and coursework guidance in the morning including Q&A sessions. In the afternoon CAS Master Teachers will run a carousel of activities designed to support those teaching the new specifications. NO CHARGE TO ATTEND – costs generously covered by CAS South East.
Afternoon carousel of workshops:
Network protocols, security and how to bake that perfect 4-layer TCP/IP cake
- Led by Dave Robinson, CAS Master Teacher at Ringwood School
Starting with quick look at the different network protocols, their function and what happens when you don't follow the recipe. Followed up with deconstructing that 4-layer TCP/IP cake to see what holds it all together and a dash of network security on the side. Finally a live demonstration of it all in action (hopefully).
Teaching programming - best practice using a range of pedagogical approaches
- Led by Pete Marshman, CAS Master Teacher, Leighton Park School
This session will lay the foundations for success at KS4 through the development of essential programming skills using pedagogical approaches based on recent research. This will include how to assess and evaluate the quality of code produced by learners and bridge the practical application and theoretical understanding of algorithms.
Teaching Computational Thinking unplugged
-
Led bySharon Molton, CAS Master Teacher, The Hurst Community College
Attendees will worth through a series of unplugged activities that can be used with students across KS3 and KS4 to teach the basics of ABSTRACTION, DECOMPOSITION, ALGORITHMS and pattern matching. You should be able to take the resources directly from the session and use them to deliver in your own classroom.
