This seminar will focus on the findings of an analysis of school attainment data in which the English Baccalaureate (E-Bacc) requirement for GCSE study in five subject areas (English, maths, science, history/geography and languages) was applied retrospectively to national data over the 8 year period leading up to the introduction of the E-Bacc measure (2003-2010). It will examine trends, mainly in GCSE entries for the E-Bacc subject set, and consider some implications for policy and practice.
