Teachers and public management reform: A case of liberal authoritarianism? Seminar
Event details
A characterisation of school reforms and their effects upon teachers.
Reform and modernisation of the schools sector have had dramatic implications for teachers and school leaders. This has created marked tensions for educators linked to a series of unresolved contradictions located within the reform process itself. This talk will examine some of these tensions including, in particular, those between:
- The entrepreneurial and regulated working lives of school leaders
- The teacher as public and private educator
The talk will focus on practice based implications of persistent and determined public management reform for teachers and school leaders and the spaces and opportunities for counter discourses. Framing school based research and capturing contemporary practices.
