Contributing expertise to the media

In November 2010, Dr Martin Polley, Senior Lecturer in Sport, worked with BBC Radio 4 on a documentary about the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games.

The programme was presented by Michael Portillo as part of the series The Things We Forgot to Remember, which casts fresh light on familiar events in history. Martin acted as a consultant and interviewee for the programme, covering such themes as anti-Semitism, the British government’s attitude towards the Berlin Olympics, the role of Jesse Owens, and the inherent politics of international sport. The programme, called ‘Jesse Owens and the Nazi Olympics’, was broadcast on Radio 4 on 22 November 2010.
