Across the world, women have less chance than men of becoming leaders of schools, colleges and universities. The Southampton Education School is involved in the Women Leading Education Network, which has members from every continent. The Network is actively engaged in supporting our research into gender issues in educational leadership.
Professor Jacky Lumby, Head of Education, directed a recent project to capture information about the experience of women school principals working in townships, rural areas and cities in South Africa. The information will contribute to a global picture so that the issues can be better understood.
