Money Matters


As a postgraduate student you will need to pay annual tuition fees to the University for your programme of study. You may be able to apply for funding to help you cover your costs.

When planning your finances, you will also need to consider other expenses such as living costs, accommodation fees and study materials. Visit the University’s postgraduate fees and funding page for more information.

Postgraduate Loans (PGL) for Master's study

Postgraduate loans are now available for UK and EU students studying a postgraduate degree and research masters programmes.

These loans are worth up to £11,222 per student.

Commonwealth Shared Scholarships

The Commonwealth Scholarships Commission is accepting applications for the MSc Education, MSc Education Practice & Innovation, MSc Education Management & Leadership for 2019 entry. The deadline for applications is 4pm 14th March. Find out more about this scholarship opportunity here.

Scholarships for PGCE shortage subjects

Teacher training scholarships of £25 000 are available for mathematics, physics, chemistry and computing PGCE secondary trainees. A 25 per cent premium will be paid to School Direct trainees whose training is based in a school where more than 35 per cent of pupils are eligible for free school meals. Postgraduate Research Scholarship (Presidential Scholarships)

The Postgraduate Research Scholarship (Presidential Scholarships) fund runs annually and is administered by the Doctoral College.

The scholarships will cover full fees, a stipend and a research training and support grant for up to 3.5 years (or 84 months pro rata for part time students).

Provider ITT and School Direct Training Programme PGCE trainees (including Further Education) are eligible for a student loan. Details can be found on the Gov.UK website.


PGCE (Primary and Secondary)

If you are normally resident in England or Wales you may be eligible for a means-tested maintenance grant. For enquiries about training to teach please contact the Teaching line by telephoning 0800 389 2500 or email via the Department for Education (DfE) website. If you are normally resident in the European Union you may also be entitled to some financial help. You need to check regulations at Gov.UK Teacher training funding or contact the EU Customer Services Team on +44(0) 1412 433 570.
