November 2003 - February 2005 Are we developing confident PMFL teachers?
This project investigated whether Primary Modern Foreign Languages (PMFL) specialisms taught as part of PGCE (Primary) courses in England were currently producing confident PMFL teachers. The educational aims of introducing MFLs into primary schools are multiple but essentially focus on developing a degree of language competence and intercultural understanding. The research explored what the most important educational purposes for teaching MFLs in primary schools were perceived to be. The project also investigated the prior experience and linguistic qualifications of the trainees following the PMFL specialism and the impact on the trainees of spending a month of school based training abroad.
