Dr John Schulz BA (Hons), BA, Dip Biology, PhD

Principal Teaching Fellow

Dr John Schulz a Principal Teaching Fellow in the Southampton Education School and is the Director of the SEds Video & Digital Media Studio.

John specialises in online and video-based learning and developed one of the university’s first fully online programme, an MSc in Education. He is also very prolific in creating video resources for teaching and learning. His videos series on the fundamentals of Research Methods for Education is used by research students, academics, and universities around the globe. John is currently working on e-learning projects with the Kazan Federal University in the Russian Republic and the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Brazil.

Research interests

His research approach stems from his interest in social psychology particularly social cognition - the role that cognitive processes play understanding the social world.

Specialism in e-learning: Understanding how individuals use digital media, such as YouTube, to support their learning
Specialism in education management: Understanding the relationship between the employees and the organisation in higher education institutions
Specialism in volunteerism: Understanding the management, motivation and retention of volunteers in non-profit organisations.
