The Clarkson Rest and Study room is a designated space for students with disabilities or long-term health conditions. It is located in Building 6, Room 1085. The Clarkson Rest and Study Room contains 4 smaller rooms spaces for student use and locker availability.
Who has access to the Clarkson Rest and Study Room?
Access to this space is given by the Student Disability and Inclusion team, usually following on from a Student Support Appointment, where reasonable adjustments and support have been discussed.
The Clarkson Rest and Study Room requires your University ID card for access.
To support the safe re-opening of the Clarkson Rest and Study Room, the following measures have been put in place:
Students need to pre-book to use the Clarkson Rest and Study Room.
All rooms have a computer, height adjustable desk and ergonomic chair.
You can select to book a room with a sofa (subject to availability).
Rooms can be booked for 2 hour slots.
You may be asked by a member of staff to show confirmation of your room booking (an email will be sent to confirm your booking).
Information on the booking form may be used to support the University test and trace programme and will be used in accordance with the University privacy policy.

Text description of room layout for the Clarkson Rest and Study Room (as you enter the room, then anticlockwise):
Room 4 (immediately in front of you): access to a computer, height adjustable desk and ergonomic chair.
Room 3: access to a computer, height adjustable desk, an ergonomic chair and a sofa.
Room 2: access to a computer, height adjustable desk, an ergonomic chair and a sofa.
Room 1: access to a computer, height adjustable desk and ergonomic chair.
On arrival to the Clarkson Rest and Study Room:
Hand sanitiser and cleaning products will be available for student use.
Please use the room number that you have booked (this will be shown on your booking confirmation email). A layout map of the room numbers can also be seen in the image on the right.
We encourage students to wear appropriate face coverings on entry and exit of the Clarkson Rest and Study Room. Once in your individual booked room, you may choose to remove your face covering.
On leaving the Clarkson Rest and Study Room:
We politely request that you wipe down your work station after use.
We politely request that you leave the Clarkson Rest and Study Room 5 minutes before the end of your booked session to reduce student contact.
We encourage students to wear appropriate face coverings on entry and exit of the Clarkson Rest and Study Room .
Other key information:
In case of an emergency evacuation – please note that any one way systems in the building do not apply in the case of an emergency evacuation. Please leave the building via the safest and quickest route (this is shown on the Fire Safety information in the Clarkson Rest and Study Room).
To maintain adequate ventilation in the Clarkson Rest and Study Room, the roof vents will remain open.
If you would like to use the lockers in the Clarkson Rest and Study Room, we recommend using the cleaning wipes provided. For use of the lockers only, you will not be required to book a slot, however we request that you keep your time in the communal area of the Clarkson Rest and Study Room to a minimum and follow the University Of Southampton Code of Conduct for Covid-19. Please note: You will still require access using your University ID card.
