How to become an Inclusive Support Ambassador (ISA)

Our Inclusive Support Ambassadors (ISAs) are current University of Southampton students who have been trained by the Student Disability and Inclusion Team to support current students, who may have a disability, mental health condition, specific learning difference or long-term health condition to overcome barriers and thrive at university.

Please note, this opportunity is open to current University of Southampton students only.

 

Are you interested in supporting new or returning students with additional needs to adjust to life here at the University?

Would you like to gain experience supporting those with long-term health conditions, mental health conditions or disabilities?

Could you be an Inclusive Support Ambassador?

Student Disability and Inclusion are looking for Inclusive Support Ambassadors (ISAs). 

For some students the transition into University and the management of university life can be challenging for a variety of reasons e.g. mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression, social communication differences, long-term health conditions or physical disabilities. An Inclusive Support Ambassador can support new, current or returning students engaged with our team through the following activities:

 

 

1:1 peer mentoring, to help students with: 

 

 

What you will gain from becoming an Inclusive Support Ambassador:

 

Time commitment:

The scheme will span the full academic year. Hours are likely to be for 1 to 2 hours weekly or fortnightly, depending on the student’s needs. 

Students are referred to the scheme throughout the year, so there is a possibility you may be matched with multiple students.

Please note, it is essential that applicants are available for a short interview on one of the following dates:

Interviews will take place in-person or online, via Microsoft Teams.  

A compulsory, on campus training day will also take place on Monday 17th June 2024.

Successful applicants will undertake a standard DBS check.
