Money

As a student living away from home, you may be managing your finances for the first time. This can be a source of stress and anxiety.

When you start living in private accommodation after your first year, there are costs such as rent and utility bills as well as a housekeeping budget to manage. Debts may become a big problem.

Sometimes the financial burden may be too heavy, and feelings of anxiety, depression and stress may interfere with your ability to study and enjoy life. The Student Hub can support you through money-related emotional problems, and put you in touch with people who can help.

The Financial Information and Assistance team have lots of useful information about student funding, hardship support and practical tips on maximizing your money, as well as a helpful FAQ section on their website.

If you are struggling with budgeting for the first time, there are places you can seek support. National Debt Line offer support with student money and debt and have some useful fact sheets or, if you are under 25 years old you could visit No Limits who provide help with budgeting.

If you have a disability (including dyslexia), you may be eligible for Disabled Students' Allowances (DSA).  There are also some external sources of funding that you may wish to investigate, for example:

The Students' Union also provides information and support on financial matters .
