Talking about how you are feeling can really help.

World Mental Health day takes place on 10th October each year. To celebrate World Mental Health Day this year, Enabling Services are offering hot drinks and some sweet treats during drop-in on Tuesday 10th October. Pop down for your opportunity to have a chat with one of our advisors about the range of support available to you.

Enabling Services have also created a wellbeing promise board for students, located in the drop-in waiting area in Building 37.  A wellbeing promise can be anything that might help your own wellbeing; it's best to pledge something that will be simple to change in your day to day life.  Once you have written your promise, you can add it to our promise board in the drop-in waiting area.  What pledge will you make to improve your wellbeing?

Drop-in is open 13.00-15.00 Monday-Friday during term time so if you can't make it today, you can pop to drop-in another day instead.  You could still make your own promise even if you can't attend drop-in today.   You can also contact Enabling Service by email enable@soton.ac.uk , call us on +44(0)23 8059 7726 or access our Live Chat.

The Student Union run a number of initiatives around mental health throughout the year, to support your mental health, as well as equip you with the skills to enable you to offer support to those around you.

Look After Your Mate is a 2 hour training session developed by the leading mental health charity Student Minds.  It provides basic skills to help students support their friends.  Keep an eye on the SUSU website for details of how to sign up and the dates for the next session.

Nightline is a confidential telephone listening service, run by students for students.  It is open 20.00-08.00 every night during term-time.  Call 023 8059 5236 (25236 from Halls).

Advice Centre is here for independent and confidential help and support with practical issues such as housing, student finance and academic problems.  It is open Monday- Friday 9.00- 17.00 and is located on level 3 in Building 40 (Garden Court), email advice@susu.org or telephone 023 8059 2085 to arrange an appointment.

Student Life will have a pop-up stand at each Halls site throughout the day today.  Pop down to see them, have a chat and find out more about their service.  Student Life is a well-being focused team based in Halls of Residence.  They deal with a range of student-related issues varying from mental health concerns, flatmate conflicts, homesickness, financial difficulties, relationship issues and academic worries.  Student Life can also ensure students are referred and signposted to longer term support services.  The service is available 24/7 and is for all students, not just those living in University accommodation.  To contact Student Life either email studentlife@soton.ac.uk or call 023 8059 8180.

Lastly, My Journey are challenging people who live in Southampton to walk at least 5,000 steps each day, starting on World Mental Health Day and there are free vouchers available for those who take part!
