Welcome to the University of Southampton! Starting university can be a wonderful and exciting experience; however, it can also bring its own unique challenges. It's natural to feel nervous or overwhelmed during the first few weeks at university, and it can be a while before you feel like you've found your feet.

Our main advice is: take care of yourself.  Looking after yourself both physically and emotionally is important in maintaining your wellbeing throughout this period of change.  Set yourself simple goals such as:

  • getting into a regular sleep pattern
  • eating as healthily as you can
  • getting some exercise
  • leaving time to relax

This will help you to adjust to your new surroundings and start your year on a positive path. Looking after yourself can be a simple and effective way to ease yourself into university life.  Being proactive and taking care will help to manage your physical, emotional and mental wellbeing allowing you to enjoy your time at university.

Enabling Services offers free workshops and groups, online resources, and self-help guides to give you the information and advice that you need to help look after your wellbeing.
