University Mental Health Day is on Thursday 7th March 2019.

The theme for this University Mental Health Day is "use your voice". Enabling Services want to encourage you to use your voice to speak out about your own wellbeing and to start conversations with others to help contribute to a change in the narrative around student mental health.

Events on University Mental Health Day

  • All day: Ask Me Anything. Ask any questions you have about the University support services to an Enabling Services and Student Life manager through @union_soton.
  • 12:30 - 1:30pm: the Priory Group will be running a CBT with Mindfulness session in the Wellbeing Centre for students. If you'd like to know more about anxiety and depression, and learn some stress management techniques, email enable@soton.ac.uk to book your place.
  • 12pm - 2pm: SUSU are hosting a Cake and Chill event in the Students' Common Room at Southampton General Hospital.
  • 5pm - 6pm: SUSU and the Zumba Society are putting on a free Zumba session in the Activities Room.
  • 7pm - 10pm: Student Life will be hosting Tea and Talk sessions at every Halls of Residence site. Come along for a hot drink, some food, and a chat!

As part of the University Mental Health Day events, the Students' Union have organised for author and mental health campaigner Hope Virgo to give a free talk about her experiences with eating disorders and mental health on Tuesday 5th March at 6pm. This will be in Building 2, room 1039 (Lecture Theatre K). Book your place here.

If you would like to come and talk to a trained advisor about your own mental health and wellbeing or your concern for someone else's, there are two Student Support Drop-in sessions on Thursday 7th March:

  • 1pm - 3pm in the Student Services Centre (Building 37).
  • 7pm - 8pm in Mayflower Halls.
