As the holidays approach, you may feel a little anxious or stressed about experiencing a change to your routine. We want to reassure you that, if the winter break feels stressful or causes you to worry, there is still lots of support available to you.

Student Life will continue to be available to all University students 24 hours a day, seven days a week during the holidays, even during the University closure period. You can contact Student Life by calling 02380 599 599 (option 2) or by emailing studentlife@soton.ac.uk.

There are also external services that are available for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Samaritans - call them on 116 123 or email jo@samaritans.org
  • Shout - text trained volunteers on 85258.
  • Student Space - contact their 24/7 text line. They have other contact methods which are available from 4pm - 11pm daily.
  • NHS 111 and 999 are available if you need immediate support.

If you are staying in Southampton over the winter break, you can sign up for a wellbeing check-in - one of the Student Life team will call you between the 7th and the 24th December to see how you are, and talk to you about any events or activities you can get involved with.

Given the uncertainty of the pandemic, you may be worried about what might happen during the Christmas break. Read the Student Space's resources about the Christmas break to help you think about, plan for and manage the end of term.
