Introduction to Student Disability and Inclusion Support

Student Support at the University of Southampton

You are encouraged to tell us if you have a disability, long-term health condition, mental health condition or specific learning difference so that we can ensure that you have the right support in place.

This includes, but is not limited to, specific learning differences (e.g. dyslexia), ADHD, mental health conditions such as depression or anxiety, autism spectrum condition, hearing impairment, visual impairment and long term health conditions, such as chronic fatigue, or epilepsy.

For students with a disability, mental health condition, long-term health condition or Specific Learning Difference (SpLD), such as dyslexia, we encourage you to book a Student Support Appointment (SSA) with a member of our Student Disability and Inclusion team.

We can then discuss and explore support available to you during your time at University.

 

If you have evidence relating to your disability (e.g. a letter from your doctor/consultant, a diagnostic assessment report etc.), we encourage you to send this in to our team so that it can be reviewed and discussed in your Student Support Appointment (SSA).


With documentary evidence of your disability we can discuss certain types of support, such as:


In some cases, detailed evidence from your school or college relating to your disability or SpLD can be used to put in place temporary reasonable adjustments , such as AERs, so please do send any evidence you may have to our team to be reviewed and discussed with you.


Don’t worry if you don’t currently have documentary evidence of your disability, we would still encourage you to make a Student Support Appointment (SSA) with our team so that we can discuss the support that may be available to you, including:
