Daniel Fay is a part-time postgraduate research student within the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Daniel graduated from the University of Bath in 2014 with a BSc (Hons) in Applied Computing and joined the Transportation Research Group in April 2014, to work on the ComTET (Command Team Experimental Test-Bed) project.

ComTET is a full-sized model of a submarine control room. It was built to perform novel research into submarine command team socio-technical networks and is one of the only research facilities of its kind in the United Kingdom. The research aim is to assess current methods of working for command teams, using repeatable scientific experiments, to systematically evaluate where performance benefits may be gained in future multi-role submarine platforms. Press releases are available for the launch and a study conducted by the ComTET team here & here. Various publications are also available.

Daniel is particularly interested in Software Engineering, HCI (Human-Computer Interaction), and Human Factors; in ComTET these interests are explored via systems analysis, and research into user interfaces to improve command team performance, and the underlying software architecture required to support them.
