Federico Romei is a Research Fellow within Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Federico is currently working on the design, manufacturing and testing of high-temperature resistojets for the development of all-electric propulsion spacecraft, as part of the STAR project funded by the UKSA.

Federico previously worked on the development of spacecraft structures for space debris environment using metal additive manufacturing as part of the ReDSHIFT Horizon 2020 project and currently collaborates with Surrey Satellite Technology Limited in the development of high-temperature resistojet propulsion systems.

  • Non-destructive testing of metal AM parts (case study at µ-VIS X-Ray Imaging Centre)
  • Design optimisation for SLM/SLS metal additive manufacturing (AM)
  • Electro-thermal, structural and fluidic multiphysics modelling
  • Functional verification of electric propulsion systems in laboratory environment
