Desmond Lim is a Research Fellow in the Aerodynamics and Astronautics Department at the University of Southampton. He specialises in experimental fluid mechanics and has experience in the development of advanced optical flow diagnostics, jet flows, flow control and scalar transport in urban flows.

2020: Research Scientist in Experimental Aerodynamics, Temasek Laboratories, National University of Singapore, Singapore.

2019: PhD in Aerospace Engineering, “Development of schlieren-image based flow diagnostics and analysis for supersonic jet flows”, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. *Nanyang President’s Graduate Scholar.

2015: BEng (Hons) in Aerospace Engineering (1st), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. *Valedictorian.

Research interests

My research focuses on scalar and momentum transport in turbulent flows.

I am interested in the fundamental processes of turbulent flows and the dispersion of air pollutants in urban flow applications.

The end goal is to work towards a sustainable future for future generations.

Research project:

Simulating air pollution in the laboratory (PI: Christina Vanderwel)

Research group

Aerodynamics and Flight Mechanic (AFM)

Current:

Experimental Methods for Aerodynamics (SESA6070)
