Dr. Jorge Guzman-Guemez is Research Fellow in the Mechatronics Engineering Group at the University of Southampton. He is interested in power electronics and control systems, especially real-time implementation of power converters for applications such as electric vehicles and energy storage. His work focuses on power control for grid-tied inverters, controller design for converters, and battery management systems.

Before graduating as an Electronics Engineer, he developed interest in research during a summer internship awarded by the Mexican Academy of Sciences at Universidad de Guadalajara. Later, to obtain his MSc degree, he proposed controllers for boost converters, and explored stability analysis for saturated control inputs. He assessed controllers’ performance using both simulations and experiments.

During his PhD, he proposed a direct power control as well as a PI decoupled control for a grid-tied NPC inverter. He developed vector analysis and investigated the performance of these controllers using both a simulated system and a real prototype.

His major projects have been the design, building and testing for

Power control of a grid-tied NPC inverter controlled by an FPGA.
Control of a boost converter controlled by Simulink Real-Time.
