Dr Konstantinos Papadikis is PostDoctoral Research Associate within Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Konstantinos Papadikis holds a BEng Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Aston University and a MSc in Advanced Mechanical Engineering from the University of Warwick. He obtained his Ph. D. in “Computational modelling of the fast pyrolysis of biomass in bubbling fluidised bed reactors” at the BioEnergy Research Group (BERG) of Aston University. He is currently a PostDoctoral Research Associate in the Energy Technology group at the University of Southampton.

Research interests

  • Computational modelling of multiphase flows and transport phenomena in chemical reactors for thermochemical conversion of biomass.
  • Development of a revised and integrated pyrolysis sub-model in FLUENT 6.3, taking into account heat and momentum transport from the bubbling bed as well as intra-particle heat transfer and chemical kinetics of biomass. The model is incorporated as a User-Defined Function in the Eulerian multiphase model of FLUENT 6.3.
  • Design, optimisation and scaling of fluid-bed reactors.
  • Numerical modelling of pyrolysis liquids (bio-oil) collection systems such as cold water condensers and direct contact heat exchangers.
  • Computational code development for thermal deterioration of 3-dimensional wood chips undergoing pyrolysis.
