Dr Shahjahan Miah is a Visiting Researcher within Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Dr Shahjahan Miah graduated with a first-class honours Master of Engineering (MEng) degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from City, University of London in 2012. He then joined the research centre for systems and control and received his PhD degree in Systems and Modelling from the same institution in 2018. Dr Miah’s PhD research was titled “A low-cost intelligent localisation system to improve cyclist safety” and entailed the development, building and testing of an instrumented bicycle for accurately mapping cyclist trajectories in real-world road environments.

Alongside his PhD, he has also worked as a Research Assistant on a number of collaborative projects at the Research Centre for Systems and Control including the EU-Funded FP7 RPB HealTec and FP7 CompETe projects (on detection of defects in the structural road condition, and on the evaluation of composite materials in aircraft, respectively). Dr Miah has also undertaken independent teaching activities on modules of City University’s undergraduate Mechanical and Electrical Engineering programmes. He has also served as a Reviewer for the IET Intelligent Transport Systems and Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science. He is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) and a Member of Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET).
