Dr. Thomas W. Smith MChem
Research Fellow in Biomethanisation of CO2

Thomas William Smith is a visiting Senior Research Assistant in Biomethanisation within Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton.
Thomas graduated from the University of Sheffield with a MChem degree in Chemistry in 2013 before undertaking a PhD at the same institution. His PhD research focused on the development and application of novel spectroscopic tools for online headspace analysis of gases generated and consumed by pure microbial cultures and the behaviour of stable gaseous donor molecules with applications in medicine, particularly carbon monoxide releasing molecules (CORMs). Thomas joined the University of Southampton in 2017 as a Senior Research Assistant and is currently working on the optimisation and analysis of both in situ and ex situ biomethanisation as part of the IB Catalyst project “Biomethanisation of CO2 in Anaerobic Digestion Plants”.
