Hi, I'm Abby Findlay and I studied BSc Environmental Science within Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton.

I can’t say enough for how the Environmental Science course at Southampton provided me a good, solid grounding in such a broad array of disciplines….I certainly wouldn’t have got where I am today without it!

At Southampton

After a very enjoyable three years studying Environmental Science (on the Aquatic Resources Pathway). I can’t say enough for how the Environmental Science course at Southampton provided me a good, solid grounding in such a broad array of disciplines….I certainly wouldn’t have got where I am today without it! I did a final year research project on the effects of oil spill on sea birds- this turned out to be springboard for my career.

My Career So Far

My first job was a Responder with Oil Spill Response – an international emergency response company. This took me to the furthest corners of the world, including Suriname, South Georgia Island, Cameroon and a six month secondment to Washington DC.

After six years, I then moved to work for the international trade association for the upstream oil & gas industry, OGP, as their Environment Manager. I spent four years working with hydrocarbon companies on a variety of key environmental and geomatics challenges the industry wanted to address.

I now live in Dubai , and am an independent consultant working on oil spill response projects both within the Gulf region and internationally.
