Hi, I'm Karishna Bunwaree and I studied Civil Engineering within Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton.

I would encourage all Civil Engineering students to think about a SUCCESS scholarship.

"I would encourage all Civil Engineering students to think about a SUCCESS scholarship. Although I applied in my first year and didn't get one, I tried again in my second year and was successful. Working in the vacation helps you apply your knowledge in a practical setting because you're directly using the skills you've learned at University. I wasn't sure whether I would qualify for a scholarship as I'm an international student from Mauritius but it all worked out well for me.

"During my first placement, I spent a lot of time watching videos of ships as part of design of a floating structure on the River Thames in London. We needed to be sure they could navigate the waters safely after the work had been carried out. In the second year, with my knowledge of French I was involved on a new port development project in Morocco.

"I have now been employed by my sponsoring company, Ramboll in the marine department and I have been working on the same project in North Africa that I was involved in during my second placement.

"Ramboll is an international firm with 10,000 engineers, designers and other consultants worldwide. Its projects close to Southampton include a £35million museum in Portsmouth for the Tudor warship Mary Rose and Poole's Twin Sails Bridge."
