Hi, I'm Lindsay Borthwick and I studied Civil Engineering within Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton.

If you want to make a good impression on future employers, working during your degree through SUCCESS really counts and, of course, you stand a good chance of getting a job with your sponsor after you graduate.

"I applied for a SUCCESS scholarship during my first year at Southampton and was awarded an industrial scholarship through the scheme. It meant I spent the next three summers working at Eurovia in the UK. During the first placement, I learned more about the company by shadowing engineers, in the second year I worked in the commercial department, getting involved in the tendering process and I was actually on site for the third summer supervising the demolition of a bridge on Salisbury Plain. It was good to put into practice what I had learned on my degree at university and excellent preparation for my future career.

"Under the SUCCESS scheme, you receive a bursary each year and there's the opportunity to be mentored by senior engineers from your sponsor company. I was recruited by Eurovia in the UK after leaving Southampton and I am now a Graduate Engineer with the company working with the strategic bid team on estimating and supply chain issues.

"Part of one of the leading European providers of transport and infrastructure services, and part of VINCI SA, Eurovia in the UK incorporates a number of businesses. Ringway operates local authority highway contracts and the Eurovia operates the road contracting, specialist surfacing and asphalt production businesses. The company also operates two Private Finance Initiatives (PFIs) - Island Roads and Hounslow Highways - and is a major shareholder in BEAR Scotland, Ringway Jacobs, Eurosigns, South West Highways, North Kent Roadstone and Wight Building Materials."
