Louise Glew MEnvSci Environmental Sciences
PhD University of Southampton
Hi, I'm Louise Glew and I studied MEnvSci Environmental Sciences within Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton.
Southampton committed some funds towards a PhD and helped me raise some additional resources with external partners such as Marwell Wildlife and The Nature Conservancy (USA).
At Southampton
I always wanted a career in conservation and started on the Biodiversity and Conservation Pathway. As well as studying a range of interdisciplinary modules I was able to conduct some research on the effects of civil wars in Africa on wildlife, which my supervisor and I had published in Oryx, an international research journal.
My Career So Far
Southampton committed some funds towards a PhD and helped me raise some additional resources with external partners such as Marwell Wildlife and The Nature Conservancy (USA); and I did a PhD studying the effectiveness of large scale community conservation in savannah rangelands in Kenya- trying to protect rare wildlife and have benefits for people. Before I had finished I had made some contacts with WWF, who recruited me as Program Officer for their Conservation Impact Initiative. I work on monitoring the implementation of large scale conservation schemes around the world, including protected coral reef systems in South East Asia.
