Hi, I'm Mark Turner and I studied MSc Transportation Planning and Engineering (2006/07) within Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton.

I was interested in pursuing a career in transport planning and after speaking to someone who was on the course the year before me, I decided that it would be a good introduction to the subject area.

Why did you decide to study the MSc Transportation Planning and Engineering at Southampton?
I was interested in pursuing a career in transport planning and after speaking to someone who was on the course the year before me, I decided that it would be a good introduction to the subject area.

What did you enjoy about the course?
The main thing I enjoyed was that it was challenging.

How has the course helped your career?
The course has helped me considerably, for instance I wouldn’t have been offered my first job without having the MSc from Southampton – it helps when the person interviewing you also has the same MSc! The MSc also helps you achieve the new Transport Planning Professional qualification (http://www.ciht.org.uk/en/tpp/) as the course is approved by the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation.

Tell us about your current job
I am currently a Senior Transport Planner working for a company called TTP Consulting, a small independent consultancy based in central London that specialises in development planning.

What advice would you give a graduate just starting the course?
Try and enjoy the course and make friends as you will likely bump into people from the course on a regular basis.
