KTP Case Study - Geotek

Geotek specialises in the analysis of geological cores. They have supplied Multi-Sensor Core Logger systems to obtain high-resolution, down-core data from sediment and rock cores for over 20 years, using a suite of geophysical and geochemical sensors, providing equipment and consultancy services to science and industry worldwide.

About the project

In this KTP, Geotek worked with the University of Southampton's Engineering and Environment unit to develop new pressure core handling and analysis apparatus apparatus, exploring methods for the analysis of the engineering properties of marine sediments at high pressure.

These developments would provide Geotek with a significant and exclusive strategic advantage in marine sediment core analysis and help facilitate the company's plan for growth in the marine sector.

Matthew Druce, associate on the KTP project, was awarded a prestigious Business Leader of Tomorrow award in the 2011 assessment of current projects; one of five awards made annually on a national basis.

Geotek

The KTP provided the opportunity for Geotek to be the first in the marketplace with new advanced equipment for testing of pressurised cores, and provide detailed analyses of gas hydrate/sediment behaviour. This provided Geotek with a new and increased revenue stream, allowing us to cement our position as market leaders and innovators.
