GKN Aerospace is a first tier supplier to the global aviation industry, working on every major fixed and rotary-wing aerospace platform. A leader in composite and metallic technologies, their business is equally focused on military and civil markets.
The company has 10,000 employees operating from 31 global centres, with over 1,000 design engineers delivering exceptional engineering services.
One of GKN's areas of expertise is in the design, development, manufacture and support of electro-thermal ice protection systems which are used on aircraft to prevent the in-flight build-up of ice on external surfaces, e.g. wing leading edges and helicopter rotor blades.
In this KTP, GKN Aerospace worked with the University of Southampton's Institute of Sound and Vibration Research to develop low power, light weight alternatives systems to GKN's current ice protection systems for use in aircraft and wind turbines.
