Fantastic Forces
An innovative project will see Year 8 Salisbury High School students working with researchers from University of Southampton and staff from the Nuffield Theatre.
The project aims to engage and inspire students into Science and Engineering by highlighting the link between Science and the Arts through interactive workshops and hands-on design challenges. During the project students from Salisbury High School will learn about forces in action on rockets in flight, sound waves and actors on the stage.
Students will visit the University of Southampton on the 22nd and 23rd February with the opportunity to see teaching laboratories and behind the scenes at the Nuffield Theatre. Researchers will then be holding workshops at Salisbury High School over the following three weeks and families from the school will be attending the University of Southampton Science and Engineering Day on Saturday 13th March.
The culmination of the project involves students designing a moving sculpture which is hoped to be on display within Salisbury City Centre. The winning design will be judged by academics from the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Maths, a representative from QinetiQ and the Education Coordinator from the New Art Centre, Salisbury.
