SES Students Shine at Faculty Research Showcase
Students from the School of Engineering Sciences have been commended in the University’s Faculty of Engineering, Science and Mathematics (FESM) Postgraduate Research Showcase.
The showcase, which took place on Thursday 6 May, is an annual event intended to highlight to a wide audience the outstanding research being carried out in the Faculty by postgraduate students. Projects drawn from a wide range of subject areas are showcased through student poster presentations combined with key-note speeches, enabling both participants and guests to discover more about the research being undertaken across the very broad range of research groups within the Faculty, and to network informally.
Research students and postdoctoral staff were invited to produce and present a poster describing their research, with a lay audience in mind. Students from the School of Engineering Sciences received four awards. Catherine Manders was presented with a Gold Award for her research on how the positioning of a hip replacement affects the strain in the bone whilst Michael Gedge picked up a Silver accolade for his research on the use of ultrasonic standing waves to manipulate particles within microfluidic devices. Stephano Redi who researched the development of an aerostat for electrical power generation was highly commended along with Catherine Soady.
