National Teaching Fellowship Success

Simon Kemp has won the most prestigious national award that recognises teaching excellence in higher education. Simon has been made a National Teaching Fellow and was one of 50 recipients of this year's award, which is presented by the Higher Education Academy.

Professor Debra Humphries, the University's Pro Vice Chancellor (Education), says: "The award of National Teaching Fellowship to Simon provides clear recognition of his national standing and the esteem in which he is held by the University. His commitment to students is outstanding and I'm delighted that this has been nationally recognised. This is yet another sign of the vibrant education culture within the University of Southampton.

Simon is a Senior Teaching Fellow and Admissions Tutor for the University's Centre for Environmental Sciences in CEE. He studied at Southampton before joining the teaching staff in 1996. Simon has a passion for teaching and a mission to ensure his students make a real difference in the field of Environmental Science and Sustainability. His success in embedding employability into his teaching has drawn wide acclaim.

This year Fellows were chosen from nearly 200 nominations submitted to the NTFS by higher education institutions, Simon was entered under Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences and will receive an award of £10,000, which may be used for professional development in teaching and learning or aspects of pedagogy.
