The 2010 Graduate and Student Paper Competition Final – Kevin Briggs in the final three!
The ICE 2010 Graduate and Student Paper Competition (GSPC) final is being held at The Rose Bowl, Leeds Metropolitan University on 22 June 2010, and our own Kevin Briggs has made it to the final.
The annual GSPC offers Graduate and Student members from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) the opportunity to submit a paper on any civil engineering related topic and compete for the top prize of £1,500. This year the event is being sponsored by both Atkins and Leeds Metropolitan University.
Finalists: Each UK region selected a winning paper and the three papers being presented in Leeds have been chosen as the best of these. The 2010 GSPC finalists are: Kevin Briggs at the University of Southampton (ICE South East); David Cousins from Mabey Bridge (ICE Wales); Lee Franck from Ove Arup and Partners (ICE London).
Kevin and the other two finalists will be presenting their papers and taking questions on them on 22 June. The papers that will be presented are: Briggs -Tree Influence on Seasonal Rail Movements; Cousins - Reinforced concrete beam hinge joint fatigue assessment; Franck - Development and design of an innovative opening mechanism for a footbridge.
What are the benefits of attending? Attending the event provides an ideal opportunity to see the latest ideas and innovations being presented and discussed by the ICE's most inspiring Student and Graduate members. It is also a fantastic opportunity to network with bright engineers of the future and leading industry figures. This event may potentially count towards ICE member's continuing professional development (CPD). Most importantly, come and support Kevin!
