The future’s bright for the new SES weather station

Published: 9 July 2010

The summer has so far seen higher than average temperatures and the School of Engineering Sciences now has the ability to access up-to-the-minute information on the climate thanks to the recent launch of its own weather station.

Funded by the Computational Engineering and Design Group through its research incentive fund, the station features an ensemble of industry standard instruments recording temperature, barometric pressure, humidity, wind speed and direction and rainfall rate. These, as well as a range of derived parameters and their 24-hour histories can be viewed online at www.soton.ac.uk/~as7/weather.htm - where information is updated approximately once every minute

The new facility, set up by Dr. András Sóbester, will now be developed continuously and become a useful research and teaching tool.
