Southampton PhD student wins prestigious prize

Martin Evans, a PhD student at the School of Engineering Sciences, won the best presentation prize at the Mission of Tribology Research 19 seminar on Wednesday 1st December after giving an outstanding talk.

This seminar is organised by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers annually as a presentation and networking opportunity for UK research groups. Martin presented on his project about condition monitoring of gear boxes in wind turbines, supervised by Ling Wang and Robert Wood. He was invited to attend the annual Tribology group dinner of the IMechE last night with the President of the IMechE (John Wood) and President of IoM3 (Barry Lye).

This is the second year running that an nCATS PhD student has won this prize (Fitri Ismail won last year 's prize for his presentation on the reduction of friction during oil well drilling by employing novel electrochemical methods).
