Dr Steve Dorney Awarded for Promoting Acoustics to the Public
Dr Steve Dorney has been awarded the Institute of Acoustics 2011 Award for Promoting Acoustics to the Public.
The Institute of Acoustics (IoA) is the UK's professional body for those working in acoustics, noise and vibration. Steve received the award at the IoA's Reproduced Sound conference, held in Brighton.
The Award recognises exceptional public engagement activity that raises awareness of the importance of acoustics outside the field. The award citation highlighted Steve's acoustics education and outreach work with all age groups and his championing of multidisciplinary projects to spread acoustics knowledge and awareness through partnerships with researchers, science communicators, artists, musicians and other creative professionals.
Steve comments: "I was very honoured to receive this award from the IoA. At a time when public engagement with research is being foregrounded by UK universities, it is especially pleasing to have our efforts to engage a wide range of public audiences with acoustics recognised by this dynamic and influential professional body. I would like to thank the IoA and the many talented colleagues in acoustics it has been my pleasure to work with over the last few years."
Steve is currently Public Engagement Tutor in the Engineering and the Environment Education Hub.
