A tasty way of helping research into hearing problems

Published: 1 November 2012

Audiology researchers have raised £194.72 for the charity Action on Hearing Loss through organising a cake sale for staff and students.

Cherith Webb, Zoe Bevis, Hannah Semeraro, Anne Wheatley, Lisa Spencer and Lucy Macfarlane are all PhD students from the Hearing and Balance Centre (ISVR) after completing either the BSc or MSc in Audiology at the University of Southampton.

"We all understand the importance of the work that Action on Hearing Loss does for those who are deaf, hard of hearing or have tinnitus," explains Cherith. "This kind of research is currently seriously under-funded as people are not fully aware of the challenges faced by those who have a hearing loss."

Among its activities, Action on Hearing Loss funds hearing research, relying on donations from its supporters. "We thank everyone who bought a cake or biscuit from us and hope that after this cake sale that more people will become interested in what Action on Hearing Loss does and why their work is so important," adds Cherith.
