New lecturer for MSc Civil Engineering
Dr Yongqiang Liu has recently joined the Civil Engineering lecturing staff from Singapore. She is world leading in the field of sewage treatment where she specializes in biological wastewater treatment and energy production from the byproducts of sewage treatment.
Dr Liu will bring this expertise to her teaching in the module Water and Wastewater Treatment which is offered as part of the MSC in Civil Engineering. She will also be offering a range of MSc research projects to students on the MSc in areas such as sewage treatment infrastructure design, nutrient removal from sewage and energy production from sewage sludge.
Her current research work in energy production includes the conversion of municipal solid waste, sewage sludge, and industrial sludge to fuels through pyrolysis/gasification, biofuel production from algae, lignocellulosic ethanol and production. Dr Liu has an outstanding publication record with 40 peer-reviewed journal papers with a H-index of 12, co-authorship of 3 books and 2 patents for wastewater treatment technologies.
