International recognition for Environmental Sciences graduate

Published: 30 September 2013

Masters of Environmental Sciences graduate Jennifer Warhurst has been highly commended in the 2013 Undergraduate of the Year awards, which received more than 3,500 submissions from institutions across 25 countries.

Jennifer impressed judges with the results of her dissertation project about flood control and climate change in cities. Her research is due to be submitted to an international research journal.

During her studies, she received a University prize for another project, assessing flood risk across Southampton in collaboration with the City Council. She investigated whether householders paving over front gardens increased the risk of flooding.

Jennifer is now a graduate waste management consultant at the global engineering consultancy Atkins.
