Major partnership announced to form next generation of autonomous maritime technology
The University of Southampton has entered a strategic partnership with Thales for the research and development of life-saving unmanned maritime vehicles.
The five-year partnership will create a common framework for collaborative projects and valuable spin-off opportunities for small to medium-sized businesses.
By teaming up with Thales, scientists will be able to immerse themselves in the practical application of autonomous technology, whilst there is a strong interest from the industry partner to explore broader collaborations and take advantage of the vast maritime expertise which exists across the University.
Researchers at Southampton has previously worked with the Thales Group on several other successful projects, including experimentation with aircraft connectivity, unmanned aerial systems and quantum navigation technology.
