Earth-related Engineering at Southampton rated 40th in the world
The University of Southampton has ranked 40th in the world for Earth-related Engineering in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2020.
The discipline, which encompasses Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Geotechnical Engineering and Ocean Engineering, is one of four Southampton subject areas placed in the top 50 globally.
The University recently opened its National Infrastructure Laboratory on Boldrewood Innovation Campus, which hosts a new geotechnical centrifuge alongside world-class ocean engineering laboratories.
Professor Susan Gourvenec , Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Technologies in Intelligent and Resilient Ocean Engineering, said: “Our research addresses real world needs with our state-of-the-art facilities, world class staff and research students, and collaborations with partners across academia, government, NGOs and industry, locally, regionally, nationally and globally.
“Through our multi-disciplinary institutes, such as the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute , we can address holistically the grand challenges facing humanity and change the world for the better.”
The University had eight subjects ranked in the top 51-100 in this year’s QS World University Rankings by Subject, including Civil & Structural Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering and Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering.
