Event details
Presented by Professor Robert Nicholls (CMEES) and Dr Neil Wells (Ocean and Earth Science)
Sea levels have been rising in the English Channel and this has been raising extreme sea levels and the hence the probability of inundation events, all things being equal. Data is best developed for the 20th and early 21st Century: accelerated sea-level rise is expected in the near future. This seminar will take an integrated perspective and examine the evidence for sea-level rise and its effects on extreme sea levels, and then examine the consequences in terms of coastal flooding. It draws on recent collaborative research between Oceanography and Civil Engineering at Southampton.
