Final Dissemination Seminar - MTU's Place in the World
10:20We are pleased to announce a one-day seminar organised by Mapping the Underworld (MTU) to showcase the final outcomes of its research to develop a multi-sensor device to detect and map buried utilities. The findings will be presented alongside national and international developments in the area. The day presents an opportunity to explore several initiatives that seek to make streetworks safer, more effective and more sustainable.
This event will cover UK, European and American perspectives of the challenges and latest advances on the issues of working in the street. It will report on the international research programmes addressing remote technologies for pipe and cable detection, location and mapping. The event is expected to appeal to a wide range of stakeholders who have to deal with buried utilities and anyone with an interest in cutting edge geophysical and mapping technologies.
Importantly, the UK industry response to the research is also covered by three presentations that cover standards, training and allied research.

Mapping the Underworld
Mapping the Underworld is an EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) funded research project combining researchers from the Universities of Birmingham, Bath, Leeds, Southampton and Sheffield.
Mapping the Underworld wishes to thank the Ordnance Survey (Southampton) – the UK’s national mapping agency – for making their superb conference venue available for this event, and all of the other industry project partners who have helped to steer the research to a successful conclusion.
