The RNLI Lecture at the Turner Sims by Vice Admiral Sir Alan Massey KCB CBE
The University of Southampton and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution hold an Annual Lecture at the University campus as part of our Advanced Technology Partnership. This also involves active research projects in engineering and sponsored students. Each year we invite an eminent speaker to deliver the lecture based upon their own work that has focused on safety and engineering around the marine and/or maritime sectors. The Annual Lecture has become one of the most prestigious in the University Calendar.
We are pleased to welcome Sir Alan Massey to the University as our speaker this year.
Why regulate? Can’t we just have fun?
The MCA is the UK's maritime regulator and has to make sure that effective rules are in place to keep lives, ships and the maritime environment safe. In close partnership with the RNLI and others, it also responds when things go badly wrong at sea. But does regulation actually get the right results? And are there other ways to deal with the dangers of treading in Neptune's kingdom?
The Lecture by custom will be delivered in the University at 6.00pm. Refreshments will be served in the foyer at 5.30pm. All are welcome.
