The 59th R.J. Mitchell Lecture, organised by the Royal Aeronautical Society's Solent Branch, will take place on March 11th 2015, entitled 'Exploring the Unknown'.
The talk will be given by Professor Richard Holdaway, CBE, FREng and University of Southampton alumnus.
The lecture reception will commence at 18.00, with the lecture to follow at 19.00. A buffet reception follows the lecture at 21.00. Tickets to the reception and lecture are free, and tickets for the buffet cost £7.50 or £5.00 for students. Please download the poster below for more details.

Speaker information
Professor Richard Holdaway, CBE, FREng,Director RAL Space Science and Technology Facilities Council,is a visiting Professor at the University of Southampton, at the University of Kent Centre for Astrophysics and Planetarey Science and at Beihang University (formerly Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics), former member of the University of Southampton Council, and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. Professor Holdaway began his distinguished career as the 1971-1974 Mitchell memorial Scholar at the University of Southampton, gaining a Ph.D in Aeronautics and Astrodynamics. This was followed by a period working on the design of the Harrier VTOL aircraft at Hawker Siddeley before joining the Appleton Laboratory in 1974 and RAL in 1980. He was appointed Director of Space Science and Technology at RAL (now RAL Space) in 1998. He has 40 years of experience in Space Programmes, having worked on numerous missions in Space Science and Earth Observation with NASA, ESA, China, Russia and the UK National Programme. Professor Holdaway was awarded a CBE in the New Years Honours List 2013 in recognition of his remarkable services to Science and Technology, his work with the Royal Academy of Engineering, his long association with Southampton University and his numerous public outreach lectures.
