Electro-Mechanical Engineering Seminar Series
Price Induction is a French engine manufacturer which has developed an innovative and lightweight turbofan, the DGEN 380. The company has its headquarters in the south-west of France (Biarritz) and subsidiaries in the USA (Atlanta), in Brazil (São José dos Campos)and in Germany (Berlin).
The DGEN it is the first high by-pass ratio turbofan which has been optimized for light traveling planes (4/5 seats) evolving in the general aviation flight domain, also known as “Personal Light Jets” (PLJ). The engine design is modern and efficient (two spool unmixed flow, high by-pass ratio, geared-down turbofan, “all electric” concept, FADEC…).

Over the past few years, the DGEN has also been used by French universities for education and research purposes. This engine is indeed a perfect example of modern turbofans and its small size is well suited for practical courses and research programs.
Further, Price Induction created the WESTT solutions, which are a family of real and virtual engine test benches based on our own test equipment and specially optimized for universities. They are:
(1) The WESTT BR, a state-of-the-art real engine test bench, which is used for propulsion classes and research.
(2) The WESTT CS/BV, a virtual engine test bench, which is used for thermodynamic classes as well as control system classes and research.
(3) The WESTT SE/SEV is a “School Engine Station”, which is used to assemble/dissemble the engine and study all aspects of a modern and compact turbomachine design.
Among the three, the WESTT CS/BV is probably the most innovative equipment, with applications in both aeronautical and control systems courses.
After having equipped several French engineering schools(e.g.ISAE-Supaéro), we are now presenting these solutions to international aeronautical universities.
