The extensive use of FRP composite materials in a wide range of industries, and their inherent variability, has prompted many researchers to assess their performance from a probabilistic perspective.
A wide range of stochastic analysis methods have been developed to account for this inherent uncertainty at different scales. The choice of micro-/meso-/macro- scale modelling depends on the analysis of interest and each class has advantages/limitations. It is often advantageous to fuse the different modelling levels in a multi-scale approach, either within a deterministic or, most importantly, within a stochastic framework. This presentation gives an overview of these aspects with special reference to the spatial variability considerations at macro-scale.
Biography
Dr. Srinivas Sriramula is currently a Lecturer in Safety & Reliability in the School of Engineering at the University of Aberdeen since August 2009. Prior to that,He was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Surrey on an EPSRC & MOD funded project CREDO (Composites Reliability from Engineering Design Optimisation). He has received PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras focusing on Copula based Simulations for Engineering systems and have a Masters degree in Structural Engineering and a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering.
