Event details

Electro-Mechanical Engineering Seminar Series

Power electronic converters are in the heart of modern energy conversion systems, with applications in the automotive, manufacturing, renewable energy, and oil industry.

This talk will focus on DC to AC converters (inverters), covering the construction and operating principles of the most common inverter topologies. An overview of an inverter design process will be given, describing how the power modules and other components are selected. More extended reference will be made on the sizing of the DC-link capacitor bank, which is the main subject of the speaker's research. Additional aspects of inverter design, relating to the requirements of specific applications, will also be discussed. Example applications will be presented throughout the talk, highlighting the role of inverters in different types of systems.
